Aerolast polyurethane wheels provide a proven solution to whatever problem you are encountering, including abrasion, load-bearing capacity or chemical deterioration. The Aerolast formula takes full advantage of the unique combination of resilience, hardness, abrasion resistance, and outstanding mechanical properties that urethane elastomers provide.

Benefits of Aerolast Urethane.

Hardness and Resilience. Aerolast offers in one material a unique combination of hardness and resilience. On the hardness scale, most practical compounds of Aerolast fall between 55 durometer A (the range of conventional rubber) and 75 durometer D (structural plastics).

Machineability. The machinability of Aerolast approaches that of some metals and is similar to many plastics. It can be readily drilled, routed, sawed, or turned and shaped on standard metalworking equipment by experienced operators familiar with the normal procedures for handling plastics.

Impact Resistance. Aerolast has significantly better impact resistance than structural plastics. The notched Izod impact value at 75° F for very hard Aerolast is 15.0 ft.-ib./in. compared with less than 2.0 ft.-lb./in. for typical structural plastics.

Coefficient of Friction. Aerolast has a low unlubricated coefficient of friction. This characteristic, coupled with its superior abrasion resistance and load-bearing capacity, is an important reason for its use in bushings and bearings.

Cold Resistance. Aerolast remains flexible at very low temperatures and possesses outstanding resistance to thermal shock. Standard compositions do not become brittle at temperatures as low as -80° F.

Heat Resistance. Aerolast products perform well at moderately elevated temperatures. The usual limit for continuous exposure is 212° F and for intermittent exposure 250° F.

Resistance to Aging. The passage of time under static, room temperature conditions has little effect upon properly compounded products of Aerolast.

Non-marking. Hard compounds of Aerolast may be prepared without the use of reinforcing agents or fillers which cause marking of floors or other surfaces.

Weather Resistance. Oxygen and ozone in atmospheric concentrations have no observable effect on Aerolast.

Abrasion Resistance. In applications where severe wear is a problem, Aerolast usually offers several times the wear life of ordinary rubbers, plastics, and metals. In products such as solid tires, an eight-fold improvement compared with conventional rubber is not uncommon, and in products such as pump impellers, Aerolast has been known to last 100 times as long as cast iron.

Load-Bearing Capacity. The load-bearing capacity of Aerolast, in both compression and shear, is far greater than that of conventional elastomers of comparable hardness.

Oil and Chemical Resistance. Aerolast has excellent resistance to oils, solvents, and many chemicals.

Water Resistance. Aerolast is completely resistant to fresh or salt water at room temperature and has excellent long-term stability in water at temperatures as high as 122° F.

Flame Resistance. Standard compounds of Aerolast, tested in accordance with ASTM D635, are self extinguishing.

Radiation Resistance. Aerolast resists cracking under repeated flexure, as evidenced by its successful use in many dynamic applications, Aerolast can be used in very thin sections because of its exceptional strength and toughness.

Electrical Properties. Aerolast potting and encapsulation compositions have been used successfully at frequencies up to 100 kilocycles and at temperatures up to 212 ° F.

Adhesion. During the fabrication of composite parts, Aerolast urethanes can readily adhere to many metals, elastomers, and plastics with bond strengths that often exceed the tear strength of the urethane itself.

Quality Control

Quality control is one of the most important steps in the final leg of a project’s success or failure. OUr rigid standards and inspection procedures are second to none and approved by all three military branches.
