Caster Swivel Locks

Locking a swivel caster adds the benefits of safety, flexibility, and ease of movement.

Swivel locks give operators more flexibility when moving and positioning a cart.  By locking the caster into a fixed position, operators can transport and steer a loaded cart with less strain resulting in the ability to traverse longer distances without additional help.  Unlocking the casters once at the destination enables a cart to be more maneuverable for easier positioning in any direction.  If you need to travel distances but also need maneuverability, consider adding swivel locks to your caster when ordering.

Heavy Duty Casters with Locks

We strongly recommend specifying casters with swivel locks during the design phase especially for higher capacity casters.  Heavy loads can be dangerous to maneuver, swivel locks make manipulating your tool easier.

Heavy Duty Caster Locks as a Safety Option

Locks are often installed for safety reasons.  Moving carts with 2 rigid casters and 2 swivel casters is easier as little to no side force needs to be applied by an operator.  When there are 4 swivels present, multiple operators may be required to handle carts safely as they tend to wander.  Although carts with 4 swivels have better maneuverability and may be required when fitting carts into tight spaces.  Outfit at least 2 casters with swivel locks and the benefits of both setups can be achieved.
