Deadman Brake Casters
The Aerol deadman brake caster is a safety-first braking system designed to ensure complete control over heavy-duty payloads. This innovative braking mechanism automatically engages when the operator releases control, effectively stopping the caster and preventing any unintended movement. It is ideal for applications where safety and precision are critical, particularly when working with heavy loads or navigating uneven or sloped surfaces, such as a ship listing at 30 degrees off horizontal in heavy seas.
The testing process consisted of two distinct phases. Each phase meticulously simulated real-world shipboard conditions, pushing the limits of the braking systems under the casters rated loads.
Testing consisted of a cart loaded with a simulated payload and then placed on a gimbal platform (designed to incline and remain stable at an angle). The platform was tilted 30 degrees off horizontal to simulate extremely heavy seas. Due to the unique brake linkage design these casters’ braking function can be triggered via multiple modes. Some examples are braking via tow-bars or by hand controls.
